Thrales Restaurant is a listed building from the 17th Century. Originally the home of 'Hester Thrale' and once divided into three cottages. Mrs Thrale entertained Doctor Johnson to dinner in this building and was as delighted by his wit as he was by her cooking.
The bar area that we have today was formerly an abbatoire which supplied the meat to the garrison in Lichfield. Many of the original features remain to this day.
Another small room in the building was the old butchers shop with its hanging rails, today the meat served has a different presentation.
Other areas in the restaurant boast the old fireplaces and exposed beams that make this such an attractive building.
